Poem below by Donavin Rudnicki (Smeaton) was the national winner in a Healthy Choices contest run by the Royal Purple.

Today Is a Day by Donavin Rudnicki

Today is a day like no other day
New paths will always come your way
You can send yourself on the right one or point yourself to the bad
Make the right choice count to ten when you’re mad

Breakfast is the flame to a happy healthy mood
Be a people person and never be rude
Live life to the fullest; always stay on the bright side
Keep away from drugs even if you have to run or hide

You will never succeed if you never try
Being healthy is telling the truth and never telling a lie
Always keep an eye on the ups and ignore the downs
Get lots of exercise; make a smile from a frown

Be yourself even if you've had a rough past
Let it motivate you, be the fuel to make you out last
People will always tell you to do this and do that
But do what you think is right even if the person gets mad

Staying fit is physically as well as emotionally too
Treat others as how you would want them to treat you
Never start smoking, it doesn't make you cool
The foundation to your future is prospering in school

Do a good deed each day and each day you will see
What a great person being nice makes you be
You can never laugh too much it is good for your heart
Reading lots of books will help make you smart

Love is the best gift don’t take it for granted
There is nothing more special, not a thing more enchanted
Life is full of setbacks don’t let it slow your goal
Believe in yourself, listen to your soul

Set monthly goals you need to accomplish
Give it your best and not only wish
Be the bigger person, say no and walk away
It’s an antidote to war, at times the best thing you can say

Best friends are special, more important than money
Love thy neighbor, make everything funny
Be true to yourself it’s the best thing you can do
Before you do anything think it through and through

Using your imagination each day will make everything fun
You really have to push yourself, nothing is easily won
Watch the sunset and watch the sunrise
Success comes to those who don't drink and drive

Patience is a life saver; you can never have too much
Believe in guardian angels, with old friends keep in touch
Everything happens for a reason, learn from your mistakes
Start your day with a happy thought from the second you awake

Life is a race each choice is your choice
With each step you take let the world hear your voice
Live the healthy lifestyle be brave be strong
Love your family; you'll miss them when they’re gone

How you live your life isn't for me to decide
But read each line, understand the meaning inside
Remember today is a day like no other day
Take the right path let healthy choices guide the way
